New Energy-Building Activities for the Whole Family

New Activity, New Energy for All Ages

There’s nothing like a fresh start, and the good news is, they can happen at any time! You don’t need a major moment like a new calendar year to feel that fresh start energy, you can create it right in the middle of ordinary routines by introducing simple activities the whole family can enjoy.

One great way to hit restart is with an activity break. Get the whole family moving and grooving with the “Moving Our Bodies” series from Sesame Street in Communities. Together, you can choose to explore the benefits of a dance party with Elmo, try animal yoga, or practice breathing, balance, and bending for calm bodies. We particularly love the workout with Grover. First, follow along and then create your own exercise routine and record it. It gets everyone up and encourages creativity, plus you can watch and mimic it later when you need another break!

New Books for Everyone’s Interests

Are you ready to refresh your reading materials? San Bernardino County Libraries offer in person, eContent, and even an app so that you’re never without a story for toddlers, kids, and teens. Their Library for Beginners section is particularly for kids ages zero-five to help prepare them for a first library visit, instructions to establish a reading routine, crafts and beyond. Make sure to also follow them on Facebook @SbCountyLibrary for the most up to date information and opportunities.

New Food for Fun in the Kitchen

Trying a new food or cooking together is always a fun way to shake up routine! For recipe inspiration, First 5 California presents the “Fast, Fresh and Fun” family cookbook. One recipe we think is good anytime is the banana milkshake. To make it, you’ll need:

  • 1 ½ cups milk of your choice
  • 15 fresh strawberries or ¾ cups frozen
  • 2 ripe bananas, peeled and cut

Now, throw it all in the blender and mix until smooth. Split it between multiple glasses and enjoy the refreshing treat!
