Try This At Home! Crafts to Benefit Your Child’s Development

Playing music with your child not only helps strengthen the bonds between the two of you, but builds connections in their brain to creativity and imagination. In fact, the benefits of incorporating music into your daily routine are far reaching, helping develop a child’s physical skills, language, and even self-confidence. Help them create their very own guitar out of recycled materials to make their very own music!

What you will need to make a guitar out of recycled materials:

  • Shoebox
  • 3 rubber bands
  • 2 pencils

Step 1

Cut a circle out of the top of the shoebox.

Step 2

Decorate the shoebox using brown bags, construction paper, crayons or markers, and any other miscellaneous extras.

Step 3

Stretch the 3 rubber bands and place them around the box lengthwise, positioned over the hole.

Step 4

Insert the pencils horizontally under the rubber bands and over the cut out circle

Step 5

Play an original song! Pluck the rubber bands to make music.
